5:00am on cold, dark, Fall mornings

I will forever associate the Banshees with cold fall mornings before sunrise, autumn leaves, and the mysterious kingdom of being the only person on the road.

Anyone who loves SATB or Oingo Boingo understood at some early age that certain people love Halloween as their favorite holiday, and wish that crackling energy of fall, harvest, death, midnight among the sleeping masses, and that crucial component- the seeming loneliness and energy of youth.

Long after I've traded in my black trench coat for a tie, and my long hair for a razor to preempt my bald spot, I can still recall every note of this album during my 5:00am morning ritual of newspaper delivery before anyone else was awake. Suburbia had sparkling goblin energy when the windows were rolled down and the air was both dry and misty at the same time.

This new remaster captures more depth and separation of tones than the original- which had a very poor flatness to it. The first album that the Banshees really took seriously, and the first to show their chops at songwriting, melody, and themes of the dark and spooky/fun that they would go on to explore for the next 20 years.

Ju Ju is a classic early album that marks the emergence of a beautiful moth that many of us would love for decades to come.

The best

Best siouxsie album

It's no wonder her live sets in the SATB era were always sprinkled with song from this album!!!! "into the light" is my personal fav
