Album Review

One of a series of single-artist CD anthologies on Liberty sharing this title, this collection compiles 15 of Juice Newton's hits and album tracks. Her best-known songs such as "Queen of Hearts" and "Love's Been a Little Bit Hard on Me" are included, as well as interesting items such as a cover version of the Zombies' "Tell Her No." The hits are the highlights here; although the fusion of new wave, power pop, and country may sound dated, the hooks are timeless. Greatest Hits (and More) makes for enjoyable listening, and provides an excellent and concise overview of Newton's early-'80s output.

Interesting collection...!

I was wary of this new collection because I assumed it was yet another rehash of the poorly recorded Juice retreads that appear on so many of the items on Juice's Itunes page. And in some cases, that's true. But a number of the other songs in this set are hard-to-find tracks from one-off albums to which Juice contributed. You'll want to check out #6 "Come on Over," #3 "Reason to Believe," the updated (and well recorded) "Angel of the Morning" (#1) and best of all, the rave/trance remixes of "Angel (#17)" and "Queen of Hearts (#18)." A strange combination that somehow works. Go figure!

Buyer beware... re-recordings, not the original versions.

Buyer beware... re-recordings, not the original versions. Why would you bother buying subpar re-recordings, when the originals are readily available?

Juice Newton (born Judith Kay Newton, February 18, 1952, Lakehurst, NJ) was part of the first wave of country singers raised on rock, folk-rock, and singer/songwriters, which is evident from her hit singles. "Angel of the Morning" and "Queen of Hearts," her two crossover hits, have country-pop arrangements, but their roots are in '60s pop and new wave roots rock, respectively. That's why...
