iTunes Review

Fittingly for an album where the star memorably plays two characters (on stick-up classic “Gimme The Loot”), Christopher Wallace’s debut opus has a beguiling duality at its core. For every swaggering corner boy anthem (“Juicy”, “Who Shot Ya”, g-funk-jacking slow jam “Big Poppa”) there’s a corresponding blast of hood paranoia and introspection (“Warning”, “Suicidal Thoughts”). Sprinkled with cinematic grandeur and held together by that unassailable flow, Ready to Die represents Biggie—and hip hop—at its contradictory best.

The Best Rapper.

Biggie is Brooklyn's best rapper, without question. Ready to Die is one of the hardest albums of all time. All these rappers who try to be hard today can't even compare to Big. His ability to set a scene and tell his story through verse is unparalled. No rapper alive could ever come close to the late great Godfather of Rap. Like his peers, no overwhelming beats to compensate for a lack of lyrical skill, just an MC who kills every track on the album.

great album, but get a non-remastered copy

This is such an amazing album from start to finish. Absolutely amazing. It is really sad without the samples, though. Go to a used CD store and pick up a cheaper copy that still has the funk in it (I mean, how can you listen to "Machine Gun Funk" when the grand-daddy of funk has been removed from it?).

R E A D Y to die

This is by far the best rap C.D. ever, and I am only 13 years old and i know that! Also all you idiots who gave this C.D. one star, you don't know what the hell you are talking about, you should listen to the whole C.D., and don't talk crap about Biggie, he was killed and we don't even know who really did it, even thought i think it was Suge Knight, yeah and i am not alone, R.I.P. The Notorious B.I.G. One last thing, you people who are going to write crap about me now, the fine I don't care, at least I know real music, and real talent, and that's that. R.I.P. Biggie Smalls, a true talent.

Born: May 21, 1972 in New York City, NY

Genre: Hip-Hop/Rap

Years Active: '90s

In just a few short years, the Notorious B.I.G. went from a Brooklyn street hustler to the savior of East Coast hip-hop to a tragic victim of the culture of violence he depicted so realistically on his records. His all-too-brief odyssey almost immediately took on mythic proportions, especially since his murder followed the shooting of rival Tupac Shakur by only six months. In death, the man also known as Biggie Smalls became a symbol of the senseless violence that plagued inner-city America in the...
