The Time Jumpers are a group of seasoned Nashville session pros who love the jazzy, easy-going sound of Western Swing. The band’s name playfully refers to the group’s ‘30s-through-’60s repertoire and is a slang term for a musician messing up a beat. Monday night regulars at the Station Inn, a well-known Nashville nightspot, the Time Jumpers play classics by Bob Wills and Cindy Walker and an assortment of country, pop, and jazz tunes. Jumpin’ Time, a set of 26 old-timey delights, was recorded live at the club in 2006 and captures the sense of tossed off virtuosity in their playing. The album includes six instrumentals, including three originals (“Stompin’ At the Station,” “Pig Dog Hop,” and the title cut) and covers of “My Weakness Is Too Strong,” “Fidoodlin’,” and Duke Ellington’s “Caravan.” Solos abound throughout, showing off the expert skills of three fiddlers, a lead guitarist, a pedal steel player, and an accordionist. Standouts include a Le Jazz Hot-flavored “Write Myself a Letter,” a gently chugging “Route 66,” and the torchy “Embraceable You,” but the whole set goes down easy.
These Muscians Know How to Party
Songs and tunes that bring out the best when good muscians are on stage. Here, they're great muscians playing like it's just them integrally connected to their instruments: accordian, slide guiter (or permutations), fiddles, guitar, bass, and dont forget the brush work on drums along with the vocals (country, bop, cowboy, folksy, swinging). The set has a great selection of song choices of real music. Wow. If I get to Nashville, I would love to photograph these guys!
This album is a must for any jazz/swing listeners out there! I say that because I've been down to see these guys perform at the Station Inn twice this month and both times were absolutely amazing! You will love these old classics, as well as the new tunes they have written themselves. Andy Reiss's guitar licks and Paul Franklin's smooth steel playing truly are amazing! No wonder these guys are in the studios in Nashville so much!!!
They are them Gem of Nashville. You must make the pilgrimage to see them play some Monday night at the Station Inn. What they do is a lost art where every moment is special and every note is meaningful. They have a way of making you want to master an instrument and quit at the same time. Simply the best in their genre.
