Fresh simplicity done wonderfully

Anneke has taken a very straightforward approach in this project and written uncomplicated songs that appear straight from the heart. Rather than wrapping these emotions in dramatic arrangements, which are so popular today, she has chosen to wrap the lyrics in melodic arrangements that given you the feeling she is simply talking to the listener. This approach feels somewhat like a throwback to the 60s, but with rather more sophisticated instrumentation. 'Hey Okay' is a fine example of this approach, which results in an upbeat message of keeping life simple. The almost plain treatment of 'Wonder' looks for the listener to slow down and allow the song to wash over them without overwhelming.

As a counterpoint to some of the songs that look for quiet listening, there are tracks, such as 'The World', 'Physical' and 'Wide Open' that carry the listener along with a beat that allows for an uncomplicated ride. Then there are songs, like 'Home Again' and 'Longest Day' that evoke memories of distant shores.

A simple, straightforward approach throughout the album, but not without substance. If there is any misgiving for some listeners, it will be that this is one of those albums that requires more than a single listening to begin to appreciate it. A great next step in Anneke's career!

A shame

Not even Anneke's stunning voice can save this. It sounds like an amature production with half-hearted song writing at best. A feable attempt to break into main-stream pop when her talents obviously lie elsewhere. Personally, I think she just got lazy with her singing and is attempting to ride on the coat-tail of her once famous voice.

No, no!!

Bad Anneke, bad bad girl!
