iTunes Review

The band doesn’t consider it a “greatest hits” album, but rather a collection of their most beloved songs from its 15 years and running career. Considering Glasgow, Scotland’s Snow Patrol are every bit an album band, despite its many UK hit singles (“Run” and “Chasing Cars” presented here in both studio and live versions), Up to Now flows like a long, deeply atmospheric piece far more intimate than most bands who sell 10 million records. Three new tracks, including the single “Just Say Yes” add to the special enticement for fans. But mostly this compilation cherry picks the highlights from the band’s five studio albums and various EPs. “Chocolate” retains its My Bloody Valentine haze.  “You’re All I Have” bleeds the stereo speakers with anthemic grandeur. “Set the Fire to the Third Bar” settles at the piano. “Take Back the City” strips the band to its pop-rock roots. Unlikely heroes at the start, Snow Patrol have blossomed into an arena rock band that enhances the arena.

With Snow Patrol anyone can go anywhere away from here

When I was 12 my cousin sat me down to watch the season premire of the Black Donnellys I'll never forget the ending scene where Tommy kills the Irish and Itallian mob bosses to save his brother while Open Your Eyes was playing. Ill never forget singing along to Chasing Cars with one of my best friends on the last day of our 8th grade trip. Ill never forget listening to An Olive Grove Facing the Sea and crying over and over again every time I listen to it. Ill never forget buying A Hundred Million Suns after I thought I lost touch with Snow Patrol, then that album changed my life. Ill never forget crowning Run my favorite song of all time, and finally, Ill never forget seeing Snow Patrol live on my birthday. These songs make me want to laugh, cry, enjoy life, and hate life. There is always a place in my heart for Snow Patrol

How can you even have a best of album without "Somewhere a Clock is Ticking"

After failing to secure an international audience for nearly ten years, Snow Patrol broke into the mainstream with 2003's Final Straw, a mega-selling album that showcased the band's fondness for epic, melancholic rock. The group had originally stuck closer to the pop realm, releasing quirky albums that took more cues from Belle & Sebastian than Coldplay (to whom the band would later draw many comparisons). Final Straw proved to be a turning point, however, paving the way for the success of 2006's...
