Album Review

It may not have made huge waves, but Jesse McCartney's debut album, Beautiful Soul, was an undeniable hit, one of the biggest hits on the tween scene since Hilary Duff no longer belonged just to Radio Disney. McCartney filled the hole Duff left behind at Radio Disney, as his slick, sugary confections constantly played on that channel and on The Disney Channel, too. It set the stage perfectly for a mainstream crossover, just as Hilary Duff made serious inroads outside of the Disney community after her second album, and that's what his 2006 sophomore effort, Right Where You Want Me, was designed to be. Unfortunately, it doesn't quite deliver on its intentions. Right Where You Want Me goes just a little bit too far in making McCartney into a mainstream star — rather, it goes a little bit too far in making McCartney mature, removing the snap from his bubblegum by giving him too many ballads to sing and too much production to sing through. He amiably gives it his all, yet the problem doesn't lie with McCartney: it's with the material and its presentation, which is too reserved for tweens, too kiddie for adult contemporary. So, it's the equivalent of musical puberty: McCartney may be closing in on 20, but this finds him in his awkward phase where he's not a boy yet not a man, and the record will only please those fans who are sticking by him through their own awkward phases. Fortunately, McCartney is enough of a showbiz pro that when he survives this transition, he'll be able to come through and deliver a good third album that builds on the better sections of this record.

This is Jesse McCartney? Seriously?

Wow, I must admit, this is an amazing album. Jesse has definitely proved me wrong. He has definitely broken out of that "Another Aaron Carter" status.. this is great. Coming from Jesse McCartney, most people would expect that bubblegum pop music most teenage solo artists play these days. But after I heard this album, I could definitely say that it was worth the money. Not only is the single great, but also the rest of the album as well. Every song is worth buying- it's that good. I'm giving Jesse this much praise because he deserves it. He proved me wrong completely. Now I can say that I'm a Jesse McCartney fan and not feel ashamed. I just hope the guy doesn't get a big head after the good reviews start pouring in. Whether you're a pop-punk fan, or an r&b fan, you'd definitely enjoy this record. It's something that you could always bop your head or tap your feet to. :) Two thumbs up for this album! Most definitely WORTH IT. Great job, Jesse.

Sophomore Slump?

I think not. As a long time Jesse fan, I can't put into words how impressed I am with his new album. From Dream Street to this is a huge leap, especially considering how quickly it was taken. I may be biased, but I'm very, very impressed with the new album. Jesse has really shown a lot of maturity as an artist with this album. You won't be disappointed.

Whoo Hoo!

I have just listened to all the songs, and some of them, i don't really like the beat, but i love the meaning and words to all of them, this is more of a teenage album, low beat, slow songs, and the other album, Beautiful Soul, was more UP beat, happy, with one slow song. This is a great album. I hope everyone downloads a few of these songs. Jesse is also a little cutie... you have to agree. Anyways... my favortie songs on here is: We can go anywhere right where you want me***MY FAVORITE Cant let you go Just go Just so you know Tell her All of those songs have a good beat, and a great story! I love this album!!! <33

Pop singer and actor Jesse McCartney was a child performer dynamo, singing on Broadway and landing an acting gig on All My Children before even joining his first boy band, a feat that came at the age of 12. Teen poppers Dream Street scored a platinum album with their self-titled debut before spinning off the careers of Chris Trousdale and McCartney himself, who started contributing music to children's films like Cinderella Story ("The Best Day of My Life"), Stuck in the Suburbs ("Good Life"), and...
