Fleetwood Mac started as an English blues band and eventually found its footing as a mid-'70s California pop group. The band's deep musical roots and its high level of musicianship ensured that everything it explored set the bar for its contemporaries. This tribute, featuring an eclectic roster of alternative artists, covers each era of the group; the Peter Green and Bob Welch lineups are as well-represented as the more popular Lindsey Buckingham-Stevie Nicks incarnation. Sonic Youth's Lee Ranaldo brings in his own band, with Dinosaur Jr.'s J Mascis, for a gentle read of "Albatross." Antony of Antony & The Johnsons serves up a wispy rendition of "Landslide." ZZ Top's Billy Gibbons and Co. turn in a dirty blues with the vintage "Oh Well." For the FM standards, Best Coast bounces along for a take on "Rhiannon," Lykke Li sends off a heavily reverbed version of "Silver Springs," and The Kills turn "Dreams" into a creepy obsession. Marianne Faithfull is in fine voice for a comforting, straightforward interpretation of "Angel." There's plenty of variety all around.

Laughable
...not the album...but some of the reviews I've read on here (eye roll). The songs don't sound like the originals...umm...because they're not the originals. They're covers by bands that one would expect to sound as diverse as the bands styles are...one with common sense anyway. Personally, I like several of the bands on this album and I have been a life long Fleetwood Mac fan. I was singing Dreams into a wooden spoon on the kitchen counter top at the age of 6 in 1977, when the Rumors album was released. However, if these songs sounded too much like the originals, I would be very disappointed that the bands compromised the artistic direction that made me start listening to them in the first place. I actually like most of the songs on this album, the only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is because I didn't like all of the songs on this album. Highlights for me are Antony's "Landslide", Marianne Faithful (also a lifelong fan) "Angel",and "Silver Springs covered by "Lykke Li, I also really like Karen Elson's cover of "Gold Dust Woman". For future reference, an electro band is probably going to do an electro style cover, same for folk singers, and indie-rockers. Don't expect covers to sound like the original or you will be disappointed most of the time.
Hit or miss
This album was very hit or miss for me. Although there were some stelar tracks, there were some very sub-par covers as well. By far my favorite song was Gardens and Villas cover of Gypsy. I also enjoyed The Crystal Ark's take on Tusk and Washed Out's cover of Straight Back. Lykki Li's cover of Silver Springs was also awesome. Most disappointing tracks were Dreams by The Kills, Landslide by Antony, and Best Coast's cover of Rhiannon. Just terrible. All other tracks were just okay for me. I atleast learned about a few new bands... Is this album worth a listen? Totally. Would I recommend paying 10$ for it? Absolutely not.
Hmmmmm
Lykke Li's cover of Silver Springs is BY FAR the best track, it's phenomenal. In my opinion it is the only one of these covers that even comes close to the original, though there are other noteworthy tracks: Gypsy and Gold Dust Woman in particular. The one song that I am EXTREMELY dissapointed with is the cover of Landslide. The original version of Landslide is one of the most amazing songs of all time, and THIS is what they do with it?
