Editors’ Notes

Just Who I Am: Poets & Pirates (2007) finds Kenny Chesney emphasizing his serious side as well as his beach bum inclinations. Fortunately, Chesney has the vocal gravitas to pull off a darkly brooding number like "Demons" as well as balmy, tropical-flavored fare like "Shiftwork," a duet with George Strait. There's a good deal of philosophizing here, particularly in "Don't Blink," a meditation upon fleeting happiness. In "Never Wanted Nothing More," Chesney flashes through life-changing experiences involving cars, sex, marriage and the Lord — definitely the stuff modern country hits are made of. "Dancin' for the Groceries" introduces a poignant element in its portrait of a single mom moonlighting as a stripper. There's room allowed for a little bad-boy behavior as well — "Got a Little Crazy" recounts a one-night stand to a reggae lilt, while a cover of Dwight Yoakam's "Wild Ride" rocks mightily thanks to Joe Walsh's raucous guitar licks. Overall, Just Who I Am presents Cheney as a maturing artist while retaining enough good-time spirit to please the singer's most fun-craving fans.

The *BEST* Album yet!

Of course this album is amazing! I love that his songs are directed to the young kids and the "older" ones like myself. Don't Blink is beautiful with lots of meaning and I feel that way with all of the songs on this album! AMAZING AS ALWAYS!!!!

Awesome CD, Kenny Chesney does it again. Real music with real meaning, sung by someone with real emotion in his voice. A+!

Shiftwork not available as a single? Boooo!! Hisssss!!

That's not fair!

I love Kenny Chesney for real, but I don't necessarily want the entire album just for one song. And I definitely don't want the video version, which to me is a "perversion" (what do you need sex-pot in the video for? It's women that go for Chesney more than guys.) I'm a woman, and I don't want to look at boobs... I want to look at Kenny and George. Poooo!

Contemporary country star Kenny Chesney didn't have the immediate breakout success that many of his peers enjoyed upon signing with major labels, but gradually built up a significant following via hard work, pop-friendly ballads, and a likable "Average Joe" persona. Chesney was born in Knoxville, Tennessee in 1968 and raised in the nearby small town of Luttrell, best known as the home of Chet Atkins. He grew up listening to both country and rock & roll, but didn't get serious about music until...
