Best of the year.

possibly one of the most interesting and creative collaborations of the year. Part world, part alternative, part pop, and all good. Buy it and enjoy.

Smashingly Orginal

The Radioclit & Esau Mwamwaya collaboration is a fusion of sound and culture that makes you want to dance. Although he sings in his native Chichewa, Mwamwaya communicates a passion that drips with happiness universally understood. This album delivers all the way through.

A Joyous, Refreshing Album

I'm not as well-versed or enthusiastic about world music as some but this is album is a must-listen. These are the very same guys who gave us the great cover/remix of Vampire Weekend's "Cape Cod Kwassa Kwassa" and also put their own spin on M.I.A.'s "Paper Planes" as the song "Tengazako." Now they've put out a proper album (complete with guest appearances by M.I.A. and Vampire Weekend's Ezra Koenig, naturally), and it's simultaneously upbeat, refreshing, and exciting.

The band is composed of Esau Mwamwaya, a singer from Malawi and, to mix things up a bit, British DJ/production duo Radioclit.

Stand-out tracks:
- "Yalira"
- "Warm Heart of Africa" (featuring Ezra Koenig)
- "Julia"
- "Rain Dance" (featuring M.I.A.)
- "Angonde"
- "Kamphopo"

Really, do yourself a favor and check out The Very Best's album immediately.

Years Active: '00s, '10s

Formed by Malawian singer Esau Mwamwaya and British DJ/production duo Radioclit (Johan Karlberg and Etienne Tron), electro-Afro-pop outfit the Very Best came to fruition in 2008 after the trio's free online mixtape found unexpected global success — their spirited remixes of obscure/popular pop, dance, indie rock, and Afro-pop tunes, all of which were tied together by Mwamwaya's hypnotic Chichewa, Swahili, Portuguese, and English vocals, found favor with everyone from Pitchfork to Radar to Rolling...
