A wonderful surprise!

A perfect demonstration of how good an independent band can be. This album is full of wonderful harmonies, beautiful arrangements, and tasteful instrumentation. A fantastic variety of acoustic music from Swing, Blues, Country, and Bluegrass, with original songs blended with great covers, this album truly has something for everyone.

Blown Away by Kaleidoscope

I bought this album on the release date (Aug. 5th 2011). I can't stop listening to it, nor do I want to. The original material is fresh and wholesome. It's really hard to put a label (genre) on their music. I was expecting Bluegrass but this blows traditional bluegrass completely out of the water! The musicianship is outstanding, with the most wonderful harmonies that I have heard in a long time. I have driven 350 miles twice, to hear this group live, and will do it again and again! The live performances are fantastic. Same well balanced and dynamic harmony and muscianship as the album.

Oozing with originality, class, and pure talent

If you are a connoisseur of beautiful breathtaking melodies, unforgettable harmonies, and pure raw and amazing talent - look no further than the revived and thriving 'Storefront Congregation'. If you are fortunate enough to live in the Kentucky area, please for the sake of music go check them out live, and then buy their latest CD 'Kaleidoscope'. If you don't live in or near the bluegrass state, have no fear, their CD showcases a wide variety of their wonderful talent and your purchase is only going towards funding future projects with even more delicious music to eat up.

Kent Houchin is an amazing guitarist with a sweet voice reminicent of the legendary James Taylor, with his own added unique flair. A few of the tunes on the album are his own. You must listen to "Because You Cry", which always brings a tear to my eye when I hear it. He also helped co-write a festive and upbeat swing tune you'll be sure to remember, 'Downtown Judy Brown'.

The other songwriter (in the band) of Judy Brown is Murrell Thixton, a who sings harmony and plays wonderful banjo on the album. See him live and he may sing you a number or two himself (he has a nice mellow voice). Murrell also wrote a few numbers on the CD, including an instrumental 'Buggy Ride'. Murrell's impressive banjo skills could match up with some of the great pickers of the times, and if you are a lover of the five string, you will most definitely want to listen for his excellent playing.

Lauren White is the female lead singer of the group who also plays a bass that is quite literally bigger than she is! Don't let her petite size fool you, she has one beautiful giant voice that will melt your heart with its power and sophistication. She sings a variety of songs on the album, including my personal favorite 'Caledonia', and the Patti Griffin song 'Long Ride Home'. It never ceases to impress me how she can keep such good rhythm and belt out a song as well as she does, but she will never quit amazing!

Last, but certainly not least, is Nate Livers, the 'newbie' of the band who joined up when they reuinted in the past couple of years. Nate is a blessing to the group and contributes more than his fair share to the music and the sound. If you haven't heard him sing a tune, just wait till you do! He has an amazing voice. He and his significant other wrote several songs on the album and their songwriting talent is wonderful as well. Plus the guy can just pick a mandolin like nobodies business, and he makes it look so easy!

In short, Storefront Congregation should be playing the Grand Ole Opry. They are a fantastic, brilliantly original band with so much to offer, it is no wonder why they named their new album 'Kaleidoscope'. If you love music, do yourself a favor and purchase this CD for yourself. It will be the best thing you do today.... And watch out, because before you know it you'll be seeing them on the big stage, because these guys are what talent is made of!
