Customer Reviews

I've been following the career of Kara Clark since 2011 when she released the demo version of Lonely a few months before the release of her 2012 album Southern Hospitality. It's important to note that while this shelf titled release and Southern Hospitality are essentially the same album, there are some noticeable differences that make this latest effort a little less potent than the prior release.

First off there is some effort to update, clean-up and remix tracks here that succeed in making them better than the versions that were released previously. Preacher's Hands is probably the greatest success here, the track is less burdened with layers that weren't necessary in the previous version. Living Proof and 1925 are both greatly improved here as well.

Second, cover tracks. While I like I'm Not Lisa it's not The Highway...

Finally, there are some really great tracks missing from this release that were on Southern Hospitality. Carpenter's Salary and The Highway are sorely missing from the new album.

All that said, the differences between Southern Hospitality and this release is like the difference between the raw 120 proof moonshine Popcorn Sutton used to make in the Hills of North Carolina and Tennessee and the 93 proof product that bears his name today. The ingredients are all the same, the process is updated and the product is smoother, but it still get's the job done.

Go ahead and pick this album up if you are new to Kara Clark or if you already have her previous albums because the production value here is better, but if you don't have Southern Hospitality, go ahead and pick it up too as the tracks might have the same name, you'll here the progression and you'll get some great tracks that you don't get here.

Love It!!
