iTunes Review

If Childish Gambino’s mixtape STN MTN sought to affirm his allegiance to Atlanta street rap, then its companion piece, Kauai, functions as a corollary: a daydream of tropical reverie. Where its predecessor was loud and aggressive, songs here like “Sober,” “Pop Thieves,” and “The Palisades” are lush and musical, reaching for the Technicolor pop fantasies of Michael Jackson and Pharrell. When Donald Glover returns to rapping on “Poke” (featuring a guest appearance by his brother) and “Late Night in Kauai,” the mood isn't geared toward the radio or the club, but rather to some happily delirious late-night headspace.

Top 5

Childish gambino is definitely one of the best rappers around. You can't deny it after listening to this. He's definitely one of the top 5 rappers and wouldn't be surprised if he makes it to the top 2 or 3 in the next couple years.

Bino never disappoints. Great EP along as the free STN MTN mixtape. Definitely recommend purchasing this to help out the Kauai project. Amazing musician, actor, artist, and human being.

Amazing followup to Because the Internet. Not quite rap or pop but somewhere in between. Continues with the story of The Boy.

Three years later he left that job to move to Los Angeles and was soon cast on the sitcom Community. He had released his first mixtape, Sick Boi, the previous year, using...
