Album Review

This is a bootleg album, released by Frank Zappa without enhancement, and also available as part of the Beat the Boots! box set. It contains a concert played at the Saarbrucken Open Air Festival in Germany on September 3, 1978. The set list includes a cross-section of '70s favorites, starting with "Dancin' Fool" (soon to appear on Sheik Yerbouti) and including "Don't Eat the Yellow Snow." The album runs 73 minutes and purportedly is taken from a soundboard tape; the sound quality is good, but not great. It's a respectable performance, but this same material is available in so many other places, especially the legitimate Zappa albums of the period, that it's only necessary for completists.

Need more Zappa!!!

While I am a tad disappointed with the sound of this album, it's basically the Zappa I became a fan of at the tender age of 15 (first exposure was "Sheik Yerbouti") & shows the musical talents of ALL band members along with Frank's playfulness & absolutely sharp mind. I understand the need for the Zappa family Trust being formed, but we need more Zappa introduced to "mainstream" markets & what could be easier than through iTunes? How I wish the family would put up the whole "You Can't Do That On Stage Anymore" series, so that a whole lot of great music & absolute hilarity was readily found, listened to & enjoyed by more than those of us who are considered ancient. Who can we ask for some more FZ releases? (But for the love of good lumpy gravy; fix the sound digitally as Frank would inist upon before release!) Stop punishing fans who never bootlegged by releasing crap!

Great. Just great.

I haven't been a Zappa fan for very long, but this album is well-recorded and VERY enjoyable. Five stars!!!

Frank Zappa is the best and this beat the boots is really pumpin.
