Customer Reviews

It goes without saying that Keith McKelley's self-titled debut epitomizes what contemporary jazz should be in 2010. Keith is taking jazz back to the music's original intention; the intention of being danceable. That does not mean that these tracks lack artistic integrity. The composition and improvisation on this album maintains the same introspective qualities of any straight-ahead/modern jazz recording while being able to make any night club crowd get out of their seats and move. McKelley seamlessly blends the genres of R&B, Gospel, Funk, and House music while maintaining an improvisational style the pays homage to likes of Charlie Parker, John Coltrane, and Michael Brecker. Not only does this album demonstrate Keith's keen ability for composition and virtuosic command over the saxophone, it showcases his ability as a top-notch producer. Mr. McKelley has an uncanny ear for all of the "bells and whistles" that makes every track on this album come to life. This album also boasts a number of first-class musicians ranging from recording artist Joe McBride to American Idol contestant Steve Fowler. Other musicians on the album have played with the likes of Toni Braxton, Eric Marienthal, Pamela Williams, the O' Jays, the Tommy Dorsey Orchestra, and Mary J. Blige. So whether you're putting on background music for a cocktail party, pack a dance floor, or give your brain a workout pick up a copy of Keith McKelley.

smooth stuff

This album is all about vibe. These are incredibly talented musicians who know when to groove, when to lay back, and when to blow your mind.

The Bonus Track is a nice treat, don't leave without checking that out!
