EDITORS’ NOTES

Mark Seliger is best known for his innovative photography of legendary musicians and celebrities. He also lends his creative talent to music—fronting the alt-country outfit Rusty Truck. As the band’s second album, Kicker Town, reveals, part of Seliger's gift for photographing musicians must come from his natural passion for the craft itself. The Texas native brings just enough twang to give the tunes a natural, country-kissed lilt. The same is true of the arrangements; although the roots-rocking “Emancipation” and “Good As Gone” move along at a good clip, most of the tracks take an easy-rolling, midtempo road adorned by a tasteful steel guitar swoop here, a soulfully sawing fiddle there, and just the right mix of earthiness and artfulness.

Mainline country

EWagner635,

Not sure why you are labeling this band as alt-country. This band sounds mainstream country to me. If anything, I would label Taylor Swift, Lady A, and others like them alt-country.

Great Country Music

Ramond 51,

I think this is real traditional country music with a hint of Texas swing.
Really hope radio plays this great music.

As pure as country can get...

Aperture9.15,

Emancipation alone could make these guys superstars! just a personal favorite… such a great tune.

About Rusty Truck

Rusty Truck is a happy accident. The project came together in 1998 when celebrity photographer Mark Seliger gave songwriting a try just for the sake of doing so. With his countless connections in entertainment, Seliger was encouraged by Jakob Dylan, Sheryl Crow, and the like to make the music thing real. Seliger, drummer Joey Peters (Grant Lee Buffalo), guitarist Michael Duff (Chalk FarM), lap steel player Andy Gibson (Hank Williams III), bassist Sheldon Gomberg, guitarist Ben Peeler, and vocalist Kristin Mooney solidified things with a deal with Coda Terra in 2001. The band's debut album, Broken Promises, which included appearances from Lenny Kravitz, Gillian Welch, and other rock & roll favorites, was issued in fall 2003. Luck's Changing Lanes followed in 2008. ~ MacKenzie Wilson
