iTunes Editors’ Notes

The seeds for this modern rock compilation/reinterpretation of Danny Elfman’s beloved A Nightmare Before Christmas score cover project were planted on the film’s deluxe 2006 13th- anniversary edition, from which Marilyn Manson’s dark, enticing take on the score’s narrative-setting “This Is Halloween” makes a gratifying return to help set the tone here, followed in turn by artists as diverse as Korn (“Kidnap the Sandy Klaws”) and Evanescence vocalist Amy Lee, whose take on “Sally’s Song” is one of the album’s highlights. Key to the collection’s success was allowing the myriad acts involved to cover not only the score’s familiar songs, but its rich, instrumental music as well, with Datarock, Yoshida Brothers, Rodrigo y Gabriela, the Album Leaf and RJD2 giving stylistically diverse, yet artistically cohesive new takes on the film’s atmospheric cues. Book-ended by warm new “Opening/Closing” tracks that impart the blessings of Elfman himself, enough succeeds to make this a worthy, often surprising musical reinvention of Disney’s most unlikely holiday classic.

Couldn't have asked for a better mix of artists

If you're looking for an eclectic album full of different artists covering Nightmare's best songs, this album is for you. Most of you are going to purchase songs just by your favorite artists, but I really recommend getting the entire CD. I personally think the highlight of the album is Amy Lee's cover of Sally's Song. I'm going to go out on a limb and say it tops the original! Korn's rendition of Kidnap the Sandy Claws is so cool as well. Also I think the underdog on the album is Shiny Toy Gun's cover. I was truly impressed by their cover. Overall I think this is a great album to have in your collection. You may not be a fan of the movie or some of these artists, but they really put a modern spin on one of the best movie musicals I've ever seen.

Wooooo~!

It's finally out! I've been waiting for this album for weeks, and it lives up to all of the expectations I had. There was one song that just blew me away - Sally's Song sung by Amy Lee of Evanescence. Wow. I knew she had a beautiful voice and was phenomenal in her own band - but this was simply amazing. Also, I was a bit worried about Flyleaf performing "What's This". It just seemed a bit weird to me, but they seemed to have pulled it off quite nicely. I highly recommend this CD to any Nightmare Before Christmas fans or fans of the bands below. It wont disappoint!

Amy Lee Does It Again!

There is no doubt in my mind that Amy Lee's version of "Sally's Song" is the highlight of this album. I myself am a huge fan of the movie and Danny Elfman's score, but feel that the cover of "Sally's Song" on this album is far better than the version in the movie. Amy does a chillingly beautiful job of pouring raw emotion into the song, and the piano in the background is absolutely phenomenal. I am blown away every time I listen to it!!! I fully intent to listen to it as much as I can on Halloween:) In short, it's well worth the money paid for it.
