This is NOT matsod

For a band who blasted onto the scene because of their unique "southern hardcore" style, IV is the nail in the coffin. Once bands start playin around with the mainstream sound it's all down hill from there. MATSOD will NOT recover from this cd. It's not that the music needs screaming for it to be good, but just listen to the guitar patterns and typical chord progression throughout this whole's basic, nothing special, mainstream, and because of that you need the singer to actually sing to make the song sound a little more layered. Typically when there's screaming you need the instruments to carry the sound/melody of the song in which you hear greater talent because it's needed to drive the songs...more unique song structure, cooler riffs, better song writing, and generally less mainstream nonsense. If you've never heard this band before you might like the sound, but then you're gonna be like, wow, i need to pick up their 3 previous cds! ...and you will get owned. And you will deserve it. Those cds are the sound of the REAL MATSOD...multi-guitar driven southern sounding hard rock. Not this mainstream singing load of typical junk.

Just OK easy listening

Reminds me of old southern rock I use to listen to last century... not the Maylene I expected though. They WILL sell more CDs and merch is what keeps the band on the road. My prediction is that the old Maylene will return on CD V

If i didn't know Maylene before hearing their other stuff i would say this album is fantastic! BUT they have lost their sound! The album is about 90% all vocals and just straight, normal, mainstream southern rock. Hardly any of that recognizable maylene scream (and when there is screaming its different) and even the guitar tone is less southern rock. Very disappointed in Maylene. Not what i expected from them.

Genre: Rock

Years Active: '00s

Formed by singer Dallas Taylor shortly after he was bounced from the long-running Christian metalcore act Underoath (rumor has it that the rest of the band considered Taylor's marriage proposal to his longtime girlfriend evidence of insufficient devotion to the Rock), Maylene and the Sons of Disaster are something of a stylistic change. Although they share Underoath's hardcore roots, there's an old-school vibe to Maylene and the Sons of Disaster's sound that suggests the generation of 1970s boogie...
