iTunes Review

The U.K. newspaper The Guardian calls Boy George’s first album in 18 years “the comeback of the year.” Considering the life that Boy George has lived in the interim—from arrests and 12-step groups to the two autobiographies, the Tony-nominated musical Taboo, and his fashion label B Rude—it’s a wonder that he ever found his way back to music. Yet from the opening track, “King of Everything,” where he’s looking to make amends with those who were caught in his self-destructive ways, to the smoother reggae song of acceptance “Live Your Life,” George here sings in tones that range from a lower, warmer croon to a lighter, airier attack that suggest that, at 52, he still has plenty left. “My God” comes close to mainstream singer/songwriter soul, while “It’s Easy” blossoms into orchestrated easy listening. The album's second half centers on reggae grooves (“My Star,” “Love and Danger”) that let George take it smooth. The bonus tracks on the deluxe version include covers of Bob Dylan’s “Make You Feel My Love” and Lana Del Rey’s “Video Games.”

Boy George is at his BEST!

It takes many years to become a legend and Icon! I think Boy George has become that with this amazing new album 'This is What I Do'. Filled with so many great songs and 'King of Eveything" is an instant fan classic! Do yourself a favor and BUY BOY!

He's Back!!

If "King of Everything" - the lead single - is any indication, I have high praise for this album. His voice is huskier with age but still has that whiskey-smooth soul vibe to it and he really does sing from the soul; these songs are more personal and well written than those in the past so the feeling carries through. I kept listeing to this song all day and then compared it to the other contemporary stuff I was listening to from other artists and everyhting else seemed so light and ultra fluff! Glad to see a true musician back on the scene! Congrats Boy George!!!

Nice Surprise

I have followed BG's career from the beginning, and own all his recordings. I personally have always enjoyed the different avenues he has explored all these years. My faves have always been raggae and motown. This finds George in a more raggae mood, with his vocals showing more restraint than usual. The result is a beautiful, introspective (as always) piece that is a must for the fan, as well as anyone who enjoys this vibe and genre.

British singer Boy George combined a strong, soulful singing voice with a provocative sense of fashion, both of which were first brought to the attention of English and American audiences in the group Culture Club, for whom he served as lead singer from 1982 to 1986. The group wrote and played impeccable pop music, and Boy George's androgynous persona -- heavy makeup and outrageous costumes -- gave the group a distinct video image in the dawn of MTV. That very distinctiveness, however, made the group...
