Album Review

Though listeners might guess (correctly) that Ming + FS belong to New York's illbient scene from the cover and album title, the production duo comes off in a similar manner to Japanese producers like Fantastic Plastic Machine and Pizzicato Five. While FS takes on the turntables for most tracks (in addition to occasional keyboards), Ming plays guitar and Moog. The pair's productions are tight, very tied to breakbeat jungle but with plenty of old-school hip-hop flavor. Ming + FS scatter guest rappers throughout the album with care, using BLESTeNATION for the jump-up jungle of "Unison" and an appropriately darkside dub slant to the streets-is-watching track "CLS" featuring Mack and Youngblood. Ming + FS have dozens of good ideas on Hell's Kitchen, and they never repeat themselves on this excellent debut.

Greatest D&B Album EVER

I can't believe no one has ever written a reveiw for this album, although anything said would never compare to hearing this masterpiece. I remember I picked this album up randomly at a local Cd shop, when I listened to it...... well it gave me the same sensation Dj Shadow gives me, complete and total amazement. BUY THIS ALBUM AND SHARE IT!!!!!

honestly and truly...1 of the best albums you'll ever hear

you might have seen M+F on a Nissan commercial making music with all the sounds that a car can make... anyway, Hell's Kitchen is simply one of the most complete albums in electronica genre. Hell's Kitchen (HK) has probably the most fluid mixture hip-hop, turntablism, electronica, acid jazz, illbient, trip-hop, drum&bass, breakbeat and even rock. and yes, as one reviewer mentioned, HK is almost as good as Endroducing in terms of how sensational it is. i own 3 ming+fs's albms and also have seen them live. To be honest, HK is Ming+fs's best album and they'll never be able to top it simply because Hell's Kitchen is WAY TOO GOOD. get it NOW and yes, SHARE IT~!

THANX I-TUNES!

Yo' check it, I've been rockin' Ming+F.S. since the drop of HELL'S KITCHEN, and I gotta tell ya' if you aint got dis ya' just found your next buy! King's County is by far one of the best hip-hop joints out there still today. Trust me there is no group out there that can fuse jungle-jump-up and cool jazz all on the same album and not totally lose you in the mix. Maybe "Shadow", but you get the point. The only bad thing 'bout it is you can't find it at any store out there. I promise if you buy it you'll have 14 tracks stuck in ya' dome for LIFE!

Biography

Formed: 1996 in Brooklyn, NY

Genre: Electronic

Years Active: '90s, '00s

New York City drum'n'bass duo Ming + FS pioneered their own self-described "junkyard" sound, deftly mixing and matching elements of old school hip-hop, jungle, electro, turntablism, and live instrumentation. Ming + FS met in 1996 while the former was spinning trip-hop sides at a house party, and after teaming weeks later to collaborate on a series of breakbeat tracks, they signed to the Brooklyn Music Limited under the name Leadfoot. In 1997, the duo also opened their own recording studio, Madhattan,...
