Editors’ Notes

Not since the heyday of his old band, Generation X, has Billy Idol played punk music. His solo career has featured catchy hard rock and smooth synth ballads that were delivered with a trademarked snarl and dominated early-‘80s MTV. Idol published his autobiography, Dancing With Myself in 2014 and released this album of solid commercial rockers and somber midtempo tunes with well-timed barks. Acoustic guitar (!) guides “Ghosts in My Guitar,” while the title track and “Eyes Wide Shut” tap into Idol’s past without feeling heavyhanded. “Postcards from the Past” snatches pieces of Idol’s “White Wedding” and “Rebel Yell,” while “Can’t Break Me Down” deserves to be a hit.

Customer Reviews

Billy Idol?

This is Billy Idol? The same person responsible for Rebel Yell and White Wedding? I'll reserve my judgment for the full album, but the single makes me want to die.

Amazing new single!!!

The Can't Break Me Down single is a breath of fresh air in today's popular music. This is the Billy Idol we've been waiting for! It sounds current & new, yet has the elements of classic Billy Idol that we all love so much. I absolutely can't wait for the new album!!!

The evolution of an idol

A true fan gives the artist room to grow. Do I love Billy's old music? Without a doubt it will always be my favorite. However, as he ages, we age with him and what a privilege that is. Are you the same person as you were at 18? No - give the new music a chance and listen to the lyrics and there you will find the man. 30 years worth of creative expression. Can't wait to sing along with him at the NYC concert in January - both old and new. Billy Idol is Billy Idol is Billy Idol. He could sing Mary Had A Little Lamb and I'd think it was sexy. Well done BFI. Well done. ❤️

Along with Duran Duran, Billy Idol was one the first pop/rock artists to achieve massive success in the early '80s due to a then brand-new U.S. television network, MTV.
