Disney takes us back to the sea for an adventure about home, tradition and growing up. Composed by the Samoan musician Opetaia Foa’i, Mark Mancina (who helped put a South African spin on Elton John’s songs for The Lion King), and Hamilton mastermind Lin-Manuel Miranda, the movie’s soundtrack is an uplifting mix of Disney storytelling and traditional Oceanian music, sung both in English and the Polynesian language of Tokelau. It also features beautiful performances by Hawaiian actress Auli’i Cravalho, who voices the film’s heroine, Moana.
DISNEY DID US PROUD!
Saw the movie and I am so happy that Disney did their research! The songs are awesome! Lin-Manuel is amazing! But I think we need to give great credit to Opetaia and the rest of Te Vaka for giving this album life and breathing Polynesia into it. I wouldn't have it any other way. Auli'i has an incredible voice. The Rock, Jemaine, Nicole.... all voices recognizeable to Polynesia. My only gripe is that I wish the songs didn't end! I am overjoyed at the success of this film and the music literally made my heart flutter and well up inside!
This is going to great! Love the main song!
This soundtrack not only hits the modern aspect that will target today's youth, but it also hits the Disney classic "Princess" type songs as well as the CULTURE of Pacific Islanders. I have to say I am impressed! Something that I will share with my babies and sing along to for years to come!!!
