J.T. Who?

What is not written about J.T. Taylor? J.T. is a very arrogant man! Take it from a man who has seen him in action behind the scenes. As it is said in sports, one person is not bigger then the team. J.T. seems to think he is better then the group. News to J.T. Taylor, Shawn Mac, is just as good, if not a better singer then you. Never mind he has more class in his little finger, then you have in your whole body. Shawnny Mac, Skip Martin, and Rodney Ellis, are very classy men, and VERY HUMBLE. I have been back stage after a show, on many many occasions, and knowing these folks as I do they are much happier with these 3 leading them into the future. Though they (the band) will never say it publicly, so I will. The loss of Charles Smith hurt real bad in this fan’s heart. Including with J.T. Taylor as lead I have saw Kool & The Gang in concert now 38 times, including a very hard July 4th appearance in Texas after Mr. Smith’s passing. Know that Kool & The Gang is better off without J.T. As a matter of fact, what has J.T. done without Kool & The Gang? Nothing! Hence the “J.T. Who” title.

Where's J.T. when you need him

One of the downside of dowloading albums is that you don'y get to read the full credits. I believe this concert was recorded in Australia and although I am not 100% sure it doesn't sound like it's J.T. Taylor singing. And if indeed it is not him singing then he is sorely missed. For this average concert, the songs were rearranged with more synthesizers and a much faster tempo which only contributes to obliterate the original groove of the songs. The ensemble vocals are not bad but it is obvious that the lead singer is reaching his limits on some of the songs which must make Charles Smith the original guitar player (who is introduced on the album) long for the good old days. It o.k. if you don't have this album in your collection.

Formed as a jazz ensemble in the mid-'60s, Kool & the Gang became one of the most inspired and influential funk units during the '70s, and one of the most popular R&B groups of the '80s after their breakout hit "Celebration" in 1979. Just as funky as James Brown or Parliament (and sampled almost as frequently), Kool & the Gang relied on their jazz backgrounds and long friendship to form a tightly knit group...
