Sight unseen/song unheard.

If Annie Clark puts out new material, you buy it. Period.

Why, Yes!

I like it when Annie Clark does guitar things with her hands because stuff like this happens.

Krokodil Single

This was my gateway drug to St. Vincent. I had heard her album "Marry Me" before this and thought it was a step above ok, not a lot considering a musician of her caliber. "Krokodil" is kinda forgettable. I've heard it 3 or 4 times and I still can't remember it. All five stars goes to "Grot". Going from "Marry Me" to this was a culture shock...and hooked me. Imagine hearing the pop of her first album and then this, yeah, you know what I mean.

The only song I can think of with a similar chord structure and intensity is "Cold" by The Cure. Yes, one of the Cure's most bleak, alienating songs. Imagine that, with the same kind of heaviness, but with more firepower. No, I'm not kidding. Listen to them back to back. I was surprised too. In the best way possible.

Since hearing this, I got "Strange Mercy", which I absolutely adore. I have yet to get "Actor", but I will soon along with her new one. As a fellow musician and guitarist, I have the utmost respect for what she is doing as both, because she is pushing her boundaries and the mainstream is having to accept it, much like Robert Smith in the 1980's. It always excites me to hear a new(er) artist doing something interesting because I hear it so rarely.

However, St. Vincent's beguiling sounds helped Actor rise to number 90 on the Billboard Top 200...
