Album Review

A crazy cover and crazy titles equal crazy guys, but the collision of live key chaos with breakbeat frivolousness in Paul Schneider and Stefan Jungmayer's eponymous debut is nothing if not enjoyable. Eclectic in every sense of the word, the pair splices genre and subgenre with the zest of an ethically free surgeon, the resultant album spinning a dizzying array of jazz and funk influences past a series of razor sharp beats. "Venus on the Forehead" is representative in its use of warm loops as a foundation for some menacingly effected buzzsaw keys, with dubbed bass touches reaching their inevitable crescendo within the torrential drum'n'bass of "Kronos" before easing themselves back from the edge with the organs, which lash out at the percussion of "Nice Round." While their second album honed their skills in a much tighter outing, Mum's debut encapsulates the spirit of Klein.

Customer Reviews

no, not that mum

This isn't the Icelandic Mum, it's a completely different band from Germany.

Differnt Band

I enjoy this band despite them not being the Icelandic band Mum. Good beats, able to stand on their own. I enjoy Kronos and Venus on the Forehead alot. Not sure why iTunes hasn't corrected the mistake as to their listing.

Favorite MUM...

Purchased the self titled album "MUM" when it was first released back in 2000 on disc. Make it short, this album is about electronic beats and (deep) bass sound with a texture of ambient noiz, acid-jazz funk, trip-hop, and soul music. Favorite songs from album are #1, #2, #3, #4, #5, #7, #9, #10, #11 and #12. Especially #2, #3, #4, #9, #10, #11 and #12. The sound and music comparable to DADAMNPHREAKNOIZPHUNK, FAUNA FLASH, SOFA SURFERS, MOODORAMA, TERRANOVA, MADRID DE LOS AUSTRIAS and THIEVERY CORPORATION. To me that's quality music.
The other band with the same name from Iceland sounds cheap, messy and childish.
