About Golden Suits

Golden Suits, named for the final line of a story by John Cheever, is the solo project of Fred Nicolaus, who along with fellow New Yorker Daniel Rossen (Grizzly Bear) makes up one half of mercurial indie pop duo Department of Eagles. Nicolaus, after a string of bad luck, heartbreak, and eventual self-improvement, found himself obsessed with a collection of Cheever's short stories (the moniker was nicked from a tale called "The Country Husband"), and looking to start a new creative project. The resulting Golden Suits, which blends Nicolaus' own experiences with those in the book, arrived in 2013 through Yep Roc. The more lighthearted but no less enigmatic Kubla Khan arrived in 2016, again via Yep Roc. ~ James Christopher Monger
