Editors’ Notes

Back in the mid-'00s, Lupe Fiasco struck a nerve with his fashion-forward style, matched with cheeky verses and ear-tickling, loop-driven productions, which endeared him to fans and critics alike. Lasers (an acronym for Love Always Shines Everytime Remember 2 Smile) marks his 2011 return. Straight off the bat, it's clear that Lupe has no intentions keeping his original, underground-centric fan base, as he employs a lot more singing, radio-ready choruses, and a heavy, electro-pop influence on his tracks. The best joints here are the string-laced, Afro-centric anthem "All Black Everything," ridiculously catchy "Coming Up" featuring MDMA, and "Words I Never Said" with Skylar Grey. Other guests include John Legend, Trey Songz, and Matt Mahaffey.

Customer Reviews

Gunna keep it short. Lupe is a rapper with a purpose. He tells a story its not about how much money he has or how many girls he gets at the club and thats why he is such a great rapper. He will continue to stay on my playlists for awhile. Yes for Lupe and No for lil wayne

Real hip hop. Enough said.

I love you and all but this isnt Lupe. Ive got over 100 Lu songs but this isnt why I loved Lu. This is Atlantics Album and Atlantics sound. The whole album sounds manufactured repetitive and mainstream. Even with his lyrics it still feels like a sell out. Lupe can do much better and I look forward to Food & Liquor 2: TGARA which will hopefully have the real Lupe. Lasers dissapointed tremendously in comparison to FL and The Cool.

All the 5 stars are clearly blinded by Lupe fanboyism. This is not the real Lupe this is Atlantic forcing Lupe to make mediocre repetitive music. You can do so much better Lupe.

Chicago-based MC Lupe Fiasco (born Wasalu Muhammad Jaco) began rapping in junior high school and joined a group called da Pak several years later. The group signed to Epic, released one single, and split up, all before Fiasco reached the age of 20. Thanks in part to the vocal support of Jay-Z, L.A. Reid signed Fiasco as a solo artist to Arista, but before anything of significance was able to happen (only a promo single and a couple guest appearances were set up), Reid was fired, leaving the MC without...
