Last Night Blues

Original, deep-south blues came out of poverty and hardship. It was a story, an unusual soulful voice, a guitar, maybe a harp, and a foot tapping to an internal rythum. Lightn' Hopkins has always preserved the essence of the these roots, and listening to him is like being at the beginning and experiencing something never heard up to that time. His music is why blues became popular from the start. Its like jazz: you want to feel the message, drink and feel some more. Its a wonderful experience.

You gotta be kiddin' me... and I don't mean that in a bad way

Pairing Lightnin' Hopkins with Sonny Terry is like bringing together the Lord of Blues guitar and the Lord of the Blues harp. They are each accomplished musicians, in fact they are each masters of the Blues. To have them playing together is such a wonderful treat for hard core Blues fans such as myself. It's kind of like some of the supergroups that formed in the ladder days of rock and roll with one difference...this works. I really enjoyed the first track Rocky Mountain and the up tempo Take A Trip With Me. This album is absolutly wonderful.

Memories Of The Blues

This was the 1st blues album I bought: 49 years ago, my sophmore year at college. It was the 1st music I played for the lovely who has been my partner for 47 of the 49. Sam Hopkins was my entre into the world & people of the blues. And my guitar that still keeps me company with or without the blues. I think this is still my favorite blues album. I owe him a lot. Thanks Mr. Sam 'Lightning' Hopkins. Here's to your new audience. Enjoy, learn & live honorably…

Sam Hopkins was a Texas country bluesman of the highest caliber whose career began in the 1920s and stretched all the way into the 1980s. Along the way, Hopkins watched the genre change remarkably, but he never appreciably altered his mournful Lone Star sound, which translated onto both acoustic and electric guitar. Hopkins' nimble dexterity made intricate boogie riffs seem easy,...
