Editors’ Notes

As both artist and EP names might imply, what we have here is a hazy, pastel-colored burst of feel-good music that is just too darn short (ditto most of the tracks). You’ll have to hit “play” again and again to keep the mood just right during your drive to the country, or your summer day at the pond. Georgia’s Ernest Greene must have had plenty of sun-washed, lazy days in his past to conjure such relaxing, blissed-out vibes, and like many of his “chill wave” peers, his muse is all about the mood. Yes, there are murmuring synths, crackling percussion and gauzy soundscapes, but Greene reaches for something deeper, with songs like “Feel It All Around” and “New Theory” stirring an intangible nostalgic pang. It may be partially due to Greene’s warm, familiar voice — a pleasure throughout — but likely it’s his expert filtering of pop bits from another time. The dance groove of  “Get Up” is like a virus, sneaking up on you without notice until you find yourself doing a smooth shuffle ... on next listen the moves are mandatory.

chillwave... on the waves!

Take the boat out on a warm spring day with a few friends. Dock on someone's empty summer house on the ocean. Climb up to the sun deck and lay out on the chairs. Don't forget the 1980's era "no-fi" boombox and, of course, the bud. (Or some ice cold beers, if that's your preference.) Pass the pipe (slash bottles) and put Washed Out on repeat. Becoming oblivious to your surroundings is normal. Life's worries will fade to black, and your body may feel weightless for seconds at a time. Sunburn is a side effect.

a chillwave washed out to shore...

Washed Out Bro, you will always be the 'king of chillwaves'. Been listening to this EP for a while now. Still not tired of it. Feel like riding chillwaves with this bro all day long. Just wanna live a 'life of leasure' like this bro does [via 'feeling it all around' on a daily basis]. s000 chill yall.

understating at its best

Washed Out perfectly embeds a feeling of ease and relaxation with their new EP "Life of Leisure."
All songs are perfect for sitting on a beach in Fiji or just chilling on your backyard porch on a summer day. Listening to "New Theory" puts me right in the mindset for summer, envisioning myself as the girl on the ep's cover: a sense of remote closeness. Beautiful.
Nonetheless, the electronic aspect of a somewhat washed out vocal sound is truly successful and hopefully a full fledged album will be on its way!

Ernest Greene had been involved in a number of musical endeavors by the time he started putting together a series of recordings as Washed Out. Leading up to his first Washed Out recordings in the summer of 2009, Greene had worked on a similarly noisy and computerized (albeit far more guitar-heavy and fast-paced) bedroom recording project called Lee Weather. He had also worked on a series of dance music recordings with a local band in Columbia, South Carolina called Bedroom. Washed Out's initial offerings...
