Excellent Live Blues Experience!

I ran across the Latvian Blues Band about 5 years ago while reading reviews in Blues Revue magazine (now sadly gone). They raved about their playing so I decided to take a chance on their "Unreal" album. To my surprise, I liked a number of their songs, namely, Evil, Confused, Take That! and Lost. Their follow up release, "When the Sun Goes Down" was good too and I pulled 2 of their songs from it, The Way I Am and What's Wrong With Me?. Both were good blues albums.

However, this live album at The Dream Factory is a winner through and through. Each cut is upbeat with no weepers to slow the experience down. They have guests (Rick King, Raphael Wressnig, Kenski Horns and others) to supplement the band with great horn charting to add to the momentum of each song. Even the drum(s) solo on "If You Love Me Like You Say" is inventive and worthwhile listening.

As with many "live" albums, I have an issue with the mixing as the horns seem too distant at times but that is my preferences. So, the complaint is probably too minor to put it back to 4 stars.

The band may be from Latvia but their playing is better than most American blues bands. If this is your style of music, I recommend you buy this album.
