Album Review

First-rate pop, it has interesting vocal arrangements and tasteful guitar.

First rate pop?

So much more than that. This album bridged the gap between the identity-defining era of The Replacments and REM, and the life-altering experience of Nirvana. From the opening chimes of "At Midnight" through the grinding end of "Rumbletrain" (I like the think that the ? is asking listeners if they know what's in store for them), this album shows the drive and determination that most late 80's bands had lost.

Laughter

I have been collecting music since 1960, so I've seen and heard it all. This is my favorite album of all time. It never gets stale, almost every song is a jem. Between this CD and their other great offering, "World Without End", I think you can find some of the most melodic and memorable songs ever recorded. It's such a shame that this group lasted such a short time, but these two gems are ones I have been playing a thousand times each for the last 20 odd years. I never, ever get tired of them.

The Very 1st CD I BOUGHT!

That's right. Winter, 1990. This has to be one of the absolute best records I've ever bought that I've listened to repeatedly. There's only one song I loathe on here and the rest are top shelf! If I ever do a talk show, I'm asking the band to re-form and be my house band for the week of shows I do.
