iTunes Review

In Scissor Sisters’ world, glitter rains down from clouds and Elton John reigns supreme. But the New York group’s exuberant debut proves there’s substance behind the camp. Their Bee Gees-esque reboot of the Pink Floyd classic “Comfortably Numb” is a mind-melting marvel, while “Take Your Mama” is a barn-stomper about coming out in style. From the lyrical balladry of “Return to Oz” to the raunchy electro-pop of “Filthy/Gorgeous,” Scissor Sisters' music belies the band’s '70s-baby influences.

Just Amazing

What a surprise this album was. I only discovered it because it was right at the front door in Virgin Records. I am glad it was. From the very first notes of "Laura" to the last beat of "Oz" this album entranced me. It has the pseudo retro rock feel that just makes you want to love this album. One of the best albums of the year, hands down.

Mary is gorgeous and Better Luck Next Time is classic. Have fun with this one and cheers.

Everything is completely perfect, except the Bonus Track. Music is the Victim is fun. Mary is the best ballad ever. Comfortably Numb is the best cover ever, but it isn't here....

A genre- and gender-defying mix of rock, pop, and dance inspired by burlesque, drag queens, and glam rock, New York's Scissor Sisters made a splash in late 2003/early 2004 with their neon-bright reimagining of Pink Floyd's "Comfortably Numb," the B-side to the band's first single, "Electrobix." The song made quite a name for the band, which featured singers Jake Shears and Ana Matronic, keyboardist/bassist Babydaddy, guitarists Del Marquis and Derek G, and drummer Paddy Boom: along with becoming...
