Editors’ Notes

Between “Nothing Natural,” “Fantasy,” and “Ocean,” Lush’s 1992 album Spooky boasts some of the band’s most hypnotic rhythms, but for the most part it shows them moving beyond the mist of their early years. “For Love” and “Tiny Smiles” are two of the band’s simplest and most direct pop songs, while “Superblast!” and “Laura” outline a new fizzy style of punk. For those who feel that the best Lush songs are those that wash the listener in a shimmering rain, there is “Monochrome.” If you listen closely, it's guaranteed to supply the sensation of gentle levitation.

Lush's Finest Hour!!!

Lush was one of those bands that never took here in the States and it always left me scratching my head and wondering why. Their music is shimmering. Etheric. Utterly beautiful. Both melodic and fierce, it cuts through you like a sultry summer breeze, leaving you breathless as your soul soars through worlds of youthful yearning, darkest pathos, and the relief of completion attained. Give "Spooky" -their finest album- a listen and find out for yourself.

Spooky = awesome

I recommend everything they have on here, which I already owned in CD form. This album in particular I was lucky enough to get signed by the band while they were in NY just before then end. Brilliant stuff here!

Years Active: '80s, '90s, '10s

Meshing dreamy, feedback-drenched guitars with airy, catchy melodies, Lush were one of the most prominent shoegaze bands of the early '90s. Led by guitarists Miki Berenyi and Emma Anderson, the British band gained a cult following within the British and American undergrounds with its first EPs, yet the group never quite attained the critical respect given to its peers My Bloody Valentine and Ride. Even so, Lush lasted longer than any other of their contemporaries (with the exception of the Boo Radleys),...
