EDITORS’ NOTES

Toronto may not have invented hazy, luscious, off-kilter indie R&B, but by the time 2017 rolled around, they’d perfected it. Blaise Moore’s second EP-length contribution to the phenomenon, LAURENCE, swirls with the same late-night energy as OVO Sound’s discoveries, mixing skittering electronic beats, woozy textures, and sultry bedroom vocals to maximum effect. She glides effortlessly over side-chained synth stabs and minimalist production on “HE DON’T,” and gets emotional on the filter-heavy anti-slow jam “YYZ.”
