London Calls Again

I saw these young Brits in Boston (9/23/09) and they were very good. Imaginative rhythms, creative guitar riffs, tons of energy without being manic, thoughtful lyrics. A couple of the songs felt a little too much like "pop" music aimed at acquiring a radio audience to me, but my overall impression was very positive. "The General" is one of the best new songs I've heard in years. When these guys figure out how much stronger their material is when it embraces minor chords, they are going to become household names. I will buy anything they record and you should, too.

Great Discovery

Found this band in the weirdest of places. I was shopping in an outlet mall in Pennsylvania and I heard a song on the overhead sound sound system. I really liked it and asked the clerk what was playing. They didn't have the song list but she used her phone to decode what song it was. Thanks to the clerk I went home and found the song and bought the entire album.
All I can say is that I am glad I was persistant. This CD is great fun to listen to. Interesting and catchy without being preachy. Yes, it harkens back to the Jam sometimes, Beatles at other times and sometimes I hear some Madness but they have done a great job blending their own voice. This is $9.99 well spent and I have already gifted a copy to spread the word. Buy it and enjoy.

these lads are worthy

bloody fantastic sophomore effort here, i hope more brilliance will follow soon. catch them live while they still play smallish gigs ... you will not be disappointed. as these lads add depth they should do quite well indeed. i would buy anything they put out, even without a listen first.

Joel Stoker (vocals), Lucas Crowther (guitar), Rob Pyne (bass), and Grant Marsh (drums) create the jaunty garage rock sound of the Rifles. With their Jam-like swagger and matched playfulness to the Kooks, the Rifles came together in London in 2003. They made their performance debut a year later and earned praise from NME and BBC Radio 1's Zane Lowe, who quickly championed the Rifles' boyish rock & roll fun. Their debut, "When I'm Alone," arrived in May 2005 and did moderately well among their growing...
