iTunes Review

Le volume du vent, Karkwa's third album, finds the Quebec rock group swinging for the fences. Their expansive sound surges on successive waves of emotion, earning rightful comparisons to Radiohead’s, yet the French language offers singer Louis-Jean Cormier and his bandmates something warmer and altogether their own. A prime example comes near the halfway mark with “La façade,” a driving, intense, and at times achingly pretty song about false appearances. Beautifully arranged, urgently performed, this is rock as swelling, swirling reverie.

Customer Reviews

at the forefront of french canadian contemporary music

The music scene in Québec is sizzling, both in French and English, with Montréal as its epicenter. Within this context, Karkwa is among one of the most vigorous and musically rich alternative rock groups with a sound that is situated somewhere between Radiohead and Sigur Rós. Each song conveys a different story with sophisticated lyrics and a lush melodic landscape. Louis-Jean Cormier's voice is sweet and velvety. The whole album "Le volume du vent" is a masterpiece. Karkwa is poised to become known on the world stage singing en français.

Great work

I find this music to be very soothing and relaxing keep up the good work

Like DCFC and Sigur Ros combined

This album is probably one of the best albums I've ever bought. Amazing sound. This is the definition of what alternative Indie music should be. It is experimental and at the same time very traditional. Just listening to this album once just made my jaw drop in awe. I'm disappointed that iTunes USA won't but their Polaris Prize 2010 winning album on the store yet. I'm dying to get that album.

Although Karkwa only released three albums during the band's first decade together, the Canadian group garnered considerable critical acclaim during that time, eventually becoming the first francophone band to win the Polaris Music Prize. Formed in 1998 by singer/guitarist Louis-Jean Cormier, keyboardist François Lafontaine, bassist Martin Lamontagne, drummer Stephane Bergeron, and percussionist Julien Sagot, Karkwa scored a quick victory after being cherry-picked to perform at the Printemps du Quebec...
