iTunes Review

On their sophomore album, Chasen further develop their elegantly assertive pop/rock sound. That Was Then, This is Now is a resolutely positive song collection, framing messages of reverence and hope in sweet (but not cloying) melodies and sturdy rhythms. Singer Chasen Callahan favors sincerity over flamboyance, giving his performances an Everyman sort of quality. His group shifts between Edge-like guitar heroics (“Castaway,” “Bullet”), acoustic-centered textures (“On and On”) and glistening keyboard colors (“Leave You Alone”) without losing sonic focus. Drummer Aaron Lord deserves special mention for his muscular classic rock drum work on “Love In Your Name” and “Slow Down.” Lyrically, Chasen does best when they ground their themes of God’s redemptive grace in personal stories, as in the uplifting waltz “Slow Down” and the reflective, family-oriented “There Is Love.” Overall, this praise-filled, hook-laden effort benefits from its well-tailored production, featuring baroque string accents, vocal effects and backwards sounds at key moments.

Love this album!!!

I have to say this really shows the bands true talent. Their first album was good, but just lacked that "something" to push it over. This one fills that "something". There musical talent is outstanding and there lyrics are great!

You won't be disapointed!

Chasen's new CD That Was Then, This is Now is full of great music. These guys are on their way to the top! Buy it today!

this album is really a breath of fresh air going into the summer season...i've been looking for a mix to blare with the windows down!

every song of the album has a different feel....this is a "listen all the way through" album! and it's true...this band takes what you hear on the record and makes it explode when they play it live! If you have a chance to see them...GO!

Chasen Callahan was born and raised in Greenville, SC, where he polished his songwriting skills while serving as a worship pastor. During the summer months, he would assemble a makeshift band and perform at local youth camps. Each lineup would inevitably splinter when September rolled around, however, prompting Callahan to assemble a more permanent lineup with help from guitarist Evan Silver and drummer Aaron Lord. The trio found a national audience with the release of 2008’s Shine Through the Stars,...
