EDITORS’ NOTES

Five albums in, Municipal Waste bassist Phil “Landphil” Hall and his twin brother, Josh, are still cranking out excellent weed-themed death metal directly inspired by the giants of the genre. Featuring the debut of new guitarist Ray Suhy (also of Six Feet Under), Left Hand Pass sees Cannabis Corpse dropping some of the brutal, Deicide-style songwriting that informed their early releases in favor of a slightly more melodic, European sound on tracks like “Grass Oblit” and “The 420th Crusade.”

About Cannabis Corpse

A weed-loving death metal crew based out of Richmond, Virginia, Cannabis Corpse was founded in 2006 by siblings Philip "Landphil" Hall and Josh "HallHammer" Hall. Inspired by a shared love of marijuana and Buffalo, New York-based grindcore/death metal outfit Cannibal Corpse, the band pieced together their debut EP, Blunted at Birth, shortly after forming. A record deal with Richmond indie Forcefield Records followed, and in 2008 they issued their first full-length outing, Tube of the Resinated. The band moved to West Coast independent label Tankcrimes for their next two releases, 2009's The Weeding EP and 2011's full-length Beneath Grow Lights Thou Shalt Rise. In 2013 the band inked a deal with Season of Mist and dropped From Wisdom to Baked. Left Hand Pass, Cannabis Corpse's fourth studio long-player, followed in 2017. ~ James Christopher Monger
