EDITORS’ NOTES

This swashbuckling supergroup featuring Tool’s Danny Carey on drums and Mastodon’s Brent Hinds on guitar resurrects the conceptual, nautical prog-metal album. Much like the briny deep, Legend of the Seagullmen is unapologetic and punishing as it is beautiful and pristine. Roto-toms get tattooed and hurricane-force riffs propel songs like “Shipswreck” and the title track. Come for the dramatic tales (“Ballad of the Deep Sea Diver,” “Curse of the Red Tide”), stay for the wicked chops and epic suites.

One of the best bands to ever form

Although in the surface these guys seem like a joke, they are one of the best 'supergroups' to ever come together. I have met both Danny Carey and Brent Hinds in the past and I can't wait to hear their jams. Long live the Seagullmen

About Legend Of The Seagullmen

A boldly original hard rock supergroup featuring Brent Hinds (Mastodon), Danny Carey (Tool), Jimmy Hayward (director of Jonah Hex, Pixar animator), Pete Griffin (Dethklok, Zappa Plays Zappa), David Dreyer, Chris DiGiovanni, and Tim Dawson, Legend of the Seagullmen deliver a heady blend of progressive art-rock, heavy metal, and nautically themed psych-pop that invokes everyone from Blue Öyster Cult and Ghost to Alestorm and Tenacious D. The concept is the brainchild of brothers and artists Frank, Chris, and David Dreyer, who began building the narrative world of the Seagullmen in 2011 via concerts and films -- Frank describes it as "a 400,000-year-old story with pirates, sailors, a rock band, and mythical sea creatures." The group's eponymous debut studio album was released in 2018 via Dine Alone. ~ James Christopher Monger
