Perseverance

Perseverance

Hailing from Patterson Houses projects in the Bronx, Percee P grew up alongside hip-hop, honing his formidable mic skills the old-fashioned way; rocking in the park and battling on the street. Known for his furiously quick flow, intricately layered rhyme schemes, and devastating punchlines, he was/is a true MC's MC. His first official single was released way back in 1988, and he continued to drop 12-inches and showstealing cameo verses throughout the ‘90s and into the new millennium. Though highly respected by fellow rappers and fans around the world, he never got around to putting out a full-length until 2007, joining forces with LA's Stones Throw collective and in-house super-producer Madlib. On the aptly titled Perseverance, the Rhyme Inspector proves that he hasn't lost a step. Whether flipping old-school boasting ("Legendary Lyricist"), vivid storytelling ("Ghetto Rhyme Stories"), or an ode to real hip-hop ("The Lady Behind Me"), Percee shines atop Madlib's frenetic drumbreaks and finely chopped samples. With more than 20 years in the game, Percee P is still one of the best to ever do it, and this album is the long-awaited proof.
