iTunes Review

When Beyoncé’s voice cracks with sorrow on “Sandcastles,” it shows that pop’s most celebrated independent woman isn’t immune to pain. Lemonade uses those emotions and an incendiary narrative about infidelity as jumping-off points; “Hold Up,” “Don’t Hurt Yourself,” and “Sorry” are middle-fingered clap-backs to galvanize the BeyHive. But focus solely on Becky and you’ll miss the big picture. With “Freedom” and “Formation,” Beyoncé offers fierce celebrations of blackness. The accompanying film combines words by Somali-British poet Warsan Shire with radical imagery, reaffirming Bey's stature as one of the most visionary artists and provocateurs of her generation.

Beyoncé's Back & Better than Ever!

In 2013, Beyoncé sang "I'm a grown woman; I can do whatever I want." Saturday night, she showed us just how true that was. Many will have heard this album first as part of the video that aired over the weekend. I recommend everyone do the same. The whole is, as she may have hoped it to be, greater than the sum of its parts. While her last album was also a "visual album," it could stand on its own. This time around, you have to see the visuals to appreciate the album on a whole other level. This album, described as conceptual because of its addressing infidelity and forgiveness afterward, may be based on her own life or of those around her, but it is definitely the most grown up, personal record she's ever made. We got a taste with "Formation," and we expected we'd hear more of that, but this was totally different and unexpected. Some might even say "Formation" feels out of place on this record, but I believe it is the story of a woman who experienced life, got through it, and was then ready to come together with everyone else. I am not here to comment on the album as it speaks on the lives of Black women, but it is amazing whether or not you can understand the struggles and larger picture of the album. Here's to songs like "Don't Hurt Yourself," "Sorry" (the go to female anthem B is famous for), "Daddy's Lesson," and "All Night" (my personal favorite) soaring to the top of the charts! See you in award season!

As always the best 🔥🐝👑
