2nd Best

Sills does justice to all 4 characters, but her supporting cast is just inferior to Bacquier, Domingo, Tourangeau on the Sutherland recording. Unless you are just a Sills fanatic, the Sutherland recording is more satisfying. Don't make this a Sills/Sutherland battle; the two cannot be compared. The timbre of their voices and the style of approach are drastically different and both are valid. The recording with Niccolai Gedda, Gianna d'Angelo, Elisabeth Schwarzkopf, & Victoria de los Angeles is also a viable choice. If you can afford it buy all 3, I did. Either way, enjoy your choice(s).
