This is the first step for Les Mis

This was the originial score and lyrics for Les Miserables, years before Cameron Mackintosh came along and transformed the production into what it is today. This score was written completely by Alain Boublil and Claude-Michel Schonberg, and this original production was their first adaptation of the book into a musical. If you are an avid Les Miserables fan, it is easy to listen to the score of this album and recognize what was transformed, altered and modified, as well as what was dropped. It is fascinating, and I am overjoyed that the album of the original blueprints for Les Mis can be bought on iTunes. If you're interested in a French version of the present-day soundtrack of Les Miz, then I suggest buying the 1991 Paris album from Theatre Mogador that can also be found on iTunes. It's as powerful, if not more so, than the 10th Anniversary Concert (English) version of Les Mis (which in my opinion sets the standard.)

A treat for fans

This album was the original layout for what is now the musical sensation and it truly is a treat for a fan. Many people who don't already fully appreciate the final product don't find the beauty in this concept album, but it really is worth every cent. The vocals are so different from the belting of Broadway. They are pure and honest and they really grow on you, not to mention that the language only enhances the beauty of the music. I had at one point found a website with the full French text and fluent English translations (though it seems to have disappeared) and the original libretto was simply full of gorgeous imagery...Every line was pure poetry. My favorite tracks are J'avais reve d'une autre vie ("I had dreamed of a better I life") and L'uns vers l'autre ("One after the other" I think it was....) Anyway, if you love Les Miserables or want to enhance your knowledge, add this to your collection and make sure you have the Complete Symphonic Recording and 10th Anniversary Concert...Both are fantastic. Enjoy!
