iTunes Review

Arrica Rose & the …’s sophomore album was crafted from slow-burning folk-pop enveloped in surfy guitar tones of the West Coast. “Everybody” sets the tone with a Byrds-like 12-string jangle chiming through gauzy reverb as Rose sings with a sleepy cool. “Sail Away” approximates setting out on calm waters with ear-massaging tremolo effects and other shimmering guitar work that undulates as Rose’s inflections simmer down to a near whisper. She picks up the pace a bit on “We Made Out Alright,” where her slightly raspy inflections inadvertently sound like Jesse Sykes singing mellow surf rock of the ‘60s. The slightly playful “Summer’s Gonna Burn Me (So Are You)” boasts a sublime string section and what could be a lazy New Orleans horn section playing with dipsomaniacal abandon. Closing on a curious medley of “Video Killed The Radio Star” and “What A Wonderful World,” Let Alone Sea is a constant treat of tranquil elegance.

These songs are elegant and melodic and raw all at the same time. My only regret is that the album wasn't released at the beginning of the summer so I could listen to it while lazing on a blanket at night watching the stars. I'll get a few evenings in before it gets too cool.

What makes Arrica Rose great is her passion( which seems to be a lost art today), save a few, her writing ability(one reviewer said if Tom Waits were a femme, he'd write like Arrica Rose) and her versalitility to do all sorts of music.

That said Arrica Rose has hit a grand slam with this album. After listening to the whole album on Spinner, I rushed to buy songs, My favorites are Nothing Nada Nothing, Summers Gonna Burn me, So Are You and the HEARTBREAKING Video Killed the Radio Star/ What a Wonderful World. I could list others also, but I think I've made my point.

Amazing! Don't Miss It!

What can I say ....this album is amazing! Ms Rose has produced a winner of an album with at least
3 stellar tracks as far as I am concerned, including my favorites :Riverbed, Nada Nada Nothing, and
Video Killed the Radio Star/Wonderful World. The more you listen, the more addicting it becomes.
The combination of poetic lyrics, supported by a passionate, lovely, and lilting vocal performance
and a production perfect for each song ( including horns, strings, lapsteel guitar ) makes this
record something you won't want to miss.
