Album Review

No one would argue that Ann-Marget's principal entertainment skill was as a vocalist. So it may seem a bit finicky to point out that this well-packaged, 21-track retrospective of recordings from the early and mid-'60s actually is not the best anthology of her music. That honor belongs to The Many Moods of Ann-Margret (on the Australian Raven label), whose selection is considerably more pop/rock-oriented (which is not to say that it rocks very hard). Let Me Entertain You focuses more on her sultry sex-kitten pieces, which lean more toward pop-jazz and standards. Only half a dozen of the selections overlap with The Many Moods of Ann-Margret, though, so fans have the option of picking up two compilations which share the wealth fairly equitably. This (like the Australian import comp) has her two most famous numbers, "Bye Bye Birdie" and her lone Top 20 hit, "I Just Don't Understand." Much of the rest cranks up the floor-show ambience considerably, the saucy version of "C'est Si Bon" being a special highlight.

Laughing...

I saw the movie Bye Bye Birdie and I the song "Bye Bye Birdie" made me laugh so I just had to get it.. I haven't listened to any of her other songs So i'm not to sure what's going on with her album... But the song I bought was pretty darn good...

Camp classic!

There's not a drag queen around who doesn't know "13 Men"...a perfect ode to being stranded with a pack of man-candy! What a hoot!

Hmm, seriously...

I'm sort of confused by the great ratings that Ann Margret gets for her singing. If you get an A for effortless breathiness, she's awesome... but since when did 'speaking' breathy to music make you a talented singer? I'm not a fan and can't really understand her appeal to be quite honest. She was a beautiful actress back in the day, but not all beautiful people are actually talented.

Biography

Genre: Drama

Actress, singer, and dancer Ann-Margret excelled in two areas of entertainment during a career that was still going strong in its fifth decade: as a movie star, she appeared in more than 50 feature films and as a stage entertainer she performed as a headlining act in showrooms and theaters around the world. To a lesser extent, she found time periodically for television and recordings. Early in her career, emphasis was placed on her attractiveness and sexual appeal; she was marketed as a kind of red-haired...
