Editors’ Notes

Following a promising 2012 eponymous EP, Columbus, Ohio’s Josh Krajcik has recorded an album void of filler. From the soulful opening cover of Francis Anthony White’s “Nothing” to the closing original ballad “Let Me Hold You,” Krajcik’s balance of emotive self-control and unhinged passion are a solid reminder of why he got a standing ovation from all four judges on the first season of The X Factor. Rather than singing over the usual musical athleticism of Hollywood A-list session guns, Krajcik uses a backing band that plays with the chemistry and tightness of friends who grew up wood-shedding their chops in a basement. “Back Where We Belong” is a fine example of this—it borrows the simple piano lines and drum hooks from The White Stripes’ “My Doorbell” (which was borrowed from Link Wray’s “Juke Box Mama”) before blossoming into a near-orchestral panorama. Over this, Krajcik sings like he was injected with Steve Winwood and Joe Cocker’s DNA. Without going full yacht-rock, the standout serenade “One Thing She’ll Never Know” gets trimmed in gauzy '70s soft-rock accouterments.

THIS is Music!

Josh, I've been following you since X-Factor, watch your YT videos, bought your EP and have been anxiously awaiting this album. Your music is incredible. Music today is so over produced, it's so nice to hear someone who has such a genuine raw voice that doesn't require autotune and the like to make them sound like they can sing. You deserve 6 stars for this album and for your talent. Well done, you've got a life long fan, my friend.

Fantastic. Soulful.

Josh is such a wonderful artist. This long awaited album was worth it! Great music and lyrics. Perfect from beginning to end.

Fantastic

I've been eagerly awaiting this album since it was announced. I've been checking Josh out in clubs for the past 10 years around Ohio, and his voice and guitar playing always blew me away. While stylistically departing from the more rock-centric vibe his band had become well known for, this album really showcases Josh's monster vocal chops, and his ability to sing a heartfelt song with the emotion that you expect from the best in the business. I am a fan of the more soulful, throw-back R&B vibe on some of the tracks, as well, as I feel it really compliments his vocal style well. I'm really enjoying spinning this album, and hope you will too.
