10 Songs, 48 Minutes

EDITORS’ NOTES

Known for his effortless fusion of fizzy pop fun and ambitious musicality, Prince took a shocking left turn on 1994’s brooding Come, stripping down his funk to a propulsive throb. With The New Power Generation adding delicate touches of swooning jazz and mournful soul, the tender moments on Come can make your heart swell. But at its moody core, it's an album that's all about Prince abandoning himself to the hypnotic power of the groove, whether he’s aiming for the dance floor (“Come”) or the bedroom (the aptly named “Pheromone”).

Parental Advisory: Explicit Lyrics.

Hated on.

This album is constantly spit upon. I bought it when it originally came out and to this day think it's a great album. It was unfortunatley bogged down by the hype of the name change, the slave scribbling and the label change. You should buy this. I think his last great album. Dirty as he should be.

A secret masterpiece

This album was so overlooked. Prince was written off as a symbolic psycho at the time, but the rest of us knew better. Here he showed his ability to switch up styles effortlessly. Loose! is a techno masterpiece, Papa is a dark, foreboding song giving insight into an abusive relationship and Solo is a dramatic exploration into depression. And the title track, as well as the only major single from the album Space show Prince's wide-ranging capabilities.

One great and 2 good tracks otherwise big fans only

Great - Dark. Worth buying, it's a classic Prince ballad.
Good - Loose! fun&fast, and Space is sonically cool although some hokey lyrics.
The rest of the album marked the beginning of that dismal period Prince went through.
