Beware of Mr. Baker and Mr. Allen

Ginger Baker and Tony Allen are amazing drummers, IMHO. This album is on my list of greats. I'd go so far as to call it a masterpiece.

Black Man’s Cry

All I got to say is listen “Black Man’s Cry” and tell me that this album doesn’t groove you to your core! Incredibly powerful, grovin,’ driving and full of passion and drive. Fela Kuti by himself - soulful . . . Fela with The Africa ’70 band - powerful . . . Fela Kuti, Ginger Baker AND The Africa ’70 band - just f**king amazing!

Smokin' Hot

Mix together Fela's drummer Tony Allen, whose own solo work is amazing, with ex-Cream drummer and full time curmudgeon Ginger Baker and Fela's outstanding early 70's afro-groove and you've got an unstoppable juggernaut of rhythmic funk, African style. Fela Kuti and his band are fantastic in the studio, live they're just amazing. This is a good place to start if you're new to Fela's afrobeat music.
