Love it

Can't wait for the full album

This is bananas. John P. Kee just stood up in the building! This song has some oil on it. Is that Cory Henry killing tha organ? I smell smoke coming from that thing.

Why I Bought It

It was only 1989/1990 when I heard this voice on the radio backed by a choir and a tightly arranged and rehearsed band. I caught the end of the song on the vamp and they were singing, "Wait On Him". I thought, "Who is this and where can I get it"? I wasn't even 13 yet but I was hooked.

I didn't realize that is been singing songs by this artist in my youth choir under the direction of Steve Lawrence (T.D. Jake's former MD) Songs like, "I Worship Thee". I know I'm taking it back but I have to in order to make my final point.

You see, I always wanted to play keyboard but never had anyone to teach me. Strangely, through the music ministry of John P. Kee, the "Wash Me" album changed my life.

My uncle, who is deceased, made me a promise that when he received a particular check in the mail that he would buy me a keyboard. He did not lie. He surprised me at Christmas.

I bought every cassette tape of John P. Kee and New Life Community Choir that I could. With one hand on the tape player and the other on the keyboard, I mimicked and practiced each run and chord the best I could. As time moved on and the albums dropped, I was playing at a level where I could sort of keep up.

I met John P. Kee at a Waffle House by following his tour bus after a concert. I was nervous and when he politely introduced himself, I froze up and couldn't say a word. I left feeling dumb but this man was my music inspiration. I didn't want my parents playing any other Gospel artist but John P. Kee. I'm sure it got old at times but I was a life that was touched.

Times have changed since the 90's. Music has become so noisy and with so many groups/artists, everybody sounds like somebody else. I guess in order to keep up, people stay away from being original. That's what I've always appreciated about this man. He is in a class all by himself. Some have tried to mimic him and failed tremendously. Not that he's untouchable but rather that you have to do and be you. I've pulled a lot from this man and his ministry.

As an up and coming artist, I performed at a V.I.P. Conference in 2007. He was gracious to say that he likes my track and was surprised that I had produced it all. I didn't win but I walked away thanking God that my music mentor that I never got to sit at the feet of yet taught me so much from afar.

So yes! I bought Next Level because I have always been a fan and forever will be. I missed him and his music when it seemed like he wasn't doing much but I believe this is the right time for a comeback.

God bless you Pastor Kee. Millions probably feel the way I do and you probably hear it over and over but I can't allow them to say it for me. You got me through Middle and High School and even after. I still go back and jam to all the albums that seem to be forgotten and I get blessed all over again.

A religious calling turned John P. Kee from a seedy lifestyle to a career as a top-ranked gospel performer, producer, and pastor of the New Life Fellowship Church in Charlotte, North Carolina. In a 1996 interview he explained, "God delivered me in Charlotte's inner city from a life that mirrors the ills that we still face today." Inspired by the work of the Reverend Dr. James Cleveland, he quickly came into his own with his studio recordings. His releases through the 2010s, whether issued as a solo...
