iTunes Review

Five years after The Black and White Album, which found the group collaborating with Pharrell Williams, The Hives are back at full force, playing their trashy garage-punk rock with their usual abandon. "Come On" is 68 seconds of the group yelling "Come on!" Such cheekiness is The Hives' calling card. They buzz with energy through the new wave groove of "Wait a Minute" and the Joan "I Love Rock 'n' Roll" Jett power chords of "I Want More." "Take Back the Toys" adds a strutting step that evokes memories of The New York Dolls while cruising into the future with a vocal track that's grittily altered by production effects. Several tunes blast past in less than two minutes, with "These Spectacles Reveal the Nostalgics" recalling the wistful feel of classic '60s girl-group pop. "My Time Is Coming" starts with a creepy vocal and keyboard before slashing the night. There isn't a false step here, just plenty of high-energy rock 'n' roll. The deluxe edition features two additional tracks: the pounding "High School Shuffle" and the manic "Insane."

Exactly what you'd expect

You either love The Hives or think they're okay (the latter listener will often erroneously pair them with The Strokes). I personally love The Hives and I'm very happy with this album.

They didn't compromise their signature sound to try and fit in with what's "new". It's like they picked up right where Black and White left off.

The HIVES are back

This album is short and sweet. 5 years worth the wait. The hives know how to get there audience with short songs at the quickest speeds. ( come on anybody who is a hives fan has a short attention span) but this album is incredible every song is great and only the hives can pull of a song that says "Come On! " 52x and still sound insanely awesome. Thanks guys can't wait to see ya live.

Just buy it and be at least 100% more happy

The Hives don't have any bad songs in their catalogue. It's that simple.

I can't pick a favorite song from Lex Hives because they're all so good. I have to say that "1000 Answers" and "My Time is Coming" and "Without the Money" and "If I Had a Cent" are standouts that gave me goosebumps the first time I heard them.

I bought the CD and I just got the digital version for the deluxe tracks.

The Hives are my favorite band and they should be your favorite band too.

Formed: 1993 in Fagersta, Sweden

Genre: Rock

Years Active: '90s, '00s, '10s

Eight years into their career, the Hives rose from garage rock stalwarts to one of the trendiest bands of the early 2000s, along with the Strokes and the White Stripes. Mixing arty contrivances such as a strict black-and-white dress code and the guidance of a (possibly imaginary) Svengali named Randy Fitzsimmons with Stooges-inspired rock, the Hives -- Nicholaus Arson, Chris Dangerous, Dr. Matt Destruction, Vigilante Carlstroem, and Howlin' Pelle Almqvist -- formed in 1993 in Fagersta, Sweden, while...
